Newport 1665

From: £7.00

We call this one The Historian and that’s because it comes with a little history lesson. In 1665, the town of Newport here in Shropshire had a great fire.

Back then many homes were made from wood. People cooked on open fires and used candles for light. Newport has always been a busy market town, with the hustle and bustle of people going about their business. One of the people hard at work that day was a blacksmith, working over a large fire. Something went wrong and sparks from the fire caught the timbers of the building. Flames spread through the nearby streets and soon Newport was alight. Smoke filled the streets, and the sky was red. Many people lost their homes but incredibly, no one lost their life.

Our Newport is an award-winning cheese that is packed with personality and always gets an ‘mmmm’ when tried for the first time! It is smooth and buttery, but tastes light, mellow and sweet. What makes this cheese extra special is that the whole wheel is cold smoked over oak chips here at the Creamery. The result is a cheese with a lightly oak-smoked flavour that really elevates it.
